The fork Lesson 3

A fork is one piece attacking two or more enemy pieces at the same time. Since the opponent can only save one piece per turn, a fork often just wins material outright.

Knights are especially dangerous forkers — their L-shaped move attacks squares no other nearby piece can defend, so forks can appear from angles that are easy to miss.
